Digital Orthodontics
This is the future of orthodontics and the future is here today…..Improved accuracy, shorter overall treatment times, more patient comfort and less time at the dental chair are some of the advantages of going all digital.
Using digital 3D orthodontic technologies eliminates messy impressions; accurate, fast and incredibly comfortable scans of your teeth are transferred directly to an interactive treatment planning software, enabling tooth movement to be adjusted and guided directly on the screen with real-time treatment presentations. Another key advantage is the computer-aided generation of appliances, designed and customized specifically for you! This leads to increased accuracy and precision and an overall result that is beautifully customized according to your needs, more efficient and faster.

Bleaching – Whitening
Tooth whitening is a way of lightening the natural color of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surface. It cannot make a complete color change, but it may lighten the existing shade.
The teeth are cleaned with a special paste. The gums are then protected and a bleaching gel is applied to your teeth. This gel contains peroxide, a compound that bleaches teeth. Next, the dentist shines the light source on your teeth. This step is designed to enhance the effects of the peroxide. Your dentist may repeat these steps during the same appointment or ask you to return for additional appointments to finish the process of office teeth whitening. Your dentist may also instruct you to use an at-home teeth whitening kit for additional bleaching.

Bleaching FAQ’s
Maintaining good oral hygiene is a must, so brush at least twice a day and floss at least once a day. If you have cavities, gum disease, or any other dental problems, you should have them treated before having teeth whitening. The chemical used in teeth whitening could irritate a tooth with a cavity or harm tooth roots exposed by gum disease.
Teeth whitening usually does not hurt during the procedure but you may feel some irritation to your teeth which usually goes away shortly after the procedure is done. It is not unusual to feel some post-operative reversible sensitivity. Fluoride treatments help lessen this sensitivity.
Teeth whitening treatments are generally regarded as safe. In-office bleaching is a faster method of teeth whitening. Some people experience sensitive teeth and mild gum irritation temporarily after laser treatment for whitening teeth.
It is best to avoid dark chocolate, dark soups, stews, tomato sauces, soy sauce, strawberries and blueberries, colored beverages such as coffee, dark soft drinks, tea and red wine. Juices such as grape juice, tomato juice, cranberry juice and orange juice may also stain your teeth. Smoking should also be avoided
The process of teeth whitening can leave teeth temporarily sensitive to acidic foods and drinks, leading to pain and discomfort while eating. Low-pH items such as oranges, grapefruit, lemons, limes, pineapple, vinegar, pickles and soft drinks can increase the acidity of your saliva, potentially damaging areas of your teeth already weakened by whitening chemicals. Limiting these items after your whitening treatment can help you avoid food-related pain.
Teeth may be temporarily sensitive to cold temperatures after a whitening session. To minimize pain provoked by temperature, avoid cold foods and drinks such as ice water, ice cream, frozen yogurt and other frozen desserts. If your sensitivity is extreme, avoid eating foods straight from the refrigerator and consume items at room temperature or warmer.
Teeth are porous and more susceptible to stain right after the bleaching process no matter what type you use. You can safely drink coffee, tea and red wine through a straw but I would just wait for a couple of days.
Newly whitened teeth may absorb stains more easily. To keep your teeth white as long as possible, avoid tobacco and stain-causing beverages (such as coffee, cola, tea and red wine) for several days after whitening. Keep in mind that teeth usually return to their original shade over time. If you steer clear of tobacco and large amounts of stain-causing beverages, your teeth may remain bright for several years.
Bleaching is not recommended in children under the age of 16; the pulp (which contains the nerve) of your child’s teeth is large (closer to the surface). It’s best to wait until the pulp shrinks in size (it does naturally as we mature) in the late teens.
It is also not recommended to whiten your teeth if you are pregnant, have sensitive teeth or particular allergies, show signs of gum disease, worn enamel, cavities and exposed roots.
Fillings, crowns, veneers, bridges etc. do not whiten. Therefore, using a whitening agent on teeth that do and do not contain restorations will result in uneven whitening. Any whitening procedure should be done prior to the placement of composite fillings, bonding, veneers, crowns, dentures, or porcelain restorations in order to best match the degree of whitening to your new tooth color. A minimum of 2 weeks following a whitening procedure should be allowed before crowns, or veneers are completed.
Unrealistic expectations. Individuals who expect their teeth to be a new “blinding white” may be disappointed with their results.
Smokers need to be aware that their results will be limited unless they refrain from continued smoking, particularly during the bleaching process
