Sunna Orthodontics Internship Program

At Sunna Orthodontics, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of orthodontic professionals. Our one-week internship offers school and university students an exclusive opportunity to gain observational experience by shadowing skilled orthodontists and participating in various non clinical orthodontic practices.

Program Overview:
  • Duration: 1 Week
  • Hours: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
  • Location: Sunna Orthodontics Center
Jordan 36 Mohammad Ali Janah Street 5th Circle Amman

What You Will Learn:
Interns will gain insight into the daily operations of a modern orthodontic practice and the technical skills that orthodontists use to deliver excellent patient care. Topics covered include:

  1. Bonding Braces
Interns will begin by observing and understanding the foundational procedure of bonding braces. During this session, they will learn about:
  • Types of Braces: Learn about different types of braces, such as metal, ceramic, and self-ligating braces, and the benefits of each for different patients.
  • Materials Used: Explore the materials used in the bonding process, including adhesives, brackets, and wires.
  • The Bonding Process: Watch how braces are bonded to teeth step-by-step, from etching the enamel to securing the brackets.
  • Customization: Understand how bonding differs from patient to patient depending on factors like tooth structure, age, and malocclusion.
  • Advancements in Technology: Discover how digital tools, such as 3D scans and digital models, are revolutionizing the accuracy of bracket placement.
  1. Debonding Braces
After bonding comes debonding—an equally important procedure. Interns will learn about:
  • Removing Brackets: Watch how orthodontists safely remove brackets and wires, ensuring no damage to the enamel.
  • Patient Comfort: Understand the importance of patient comfort during the removal process and how techniques vary based on the patient’s dental health.
  • Post-Debonding Care: Observe how teeth are cleaned after debonding, removing residual adhesive, and the application of retainers to maintain the treatment results.
  1. Fixed Appliance Activation
These sessions cover how fixed appliances, such as expanders and braces, are activated to adjust the teeth over time:
  • Types of Fixed Appliances: Learn about expanders, space maintainers, and other fixed appliances used in orthodontic treatment.
  • Activation Techniques: Observe how these devices are adjusted over time to achieve optimal tooth movement.
  • Patient-Specific Adjustments: Understand how activation procedures and schedules are personalized based on the patient’s age, oral structure, and treatment plan.
  1. Aligners
Interns will delve into modern orthodontics with a focus on clear aligners:
  • Aligner Systems: Introduction to leading aligner systems like Invisalign and Eon. Discover the mechanics behind how aligners gradually move teeth.
  • Differences from Braces: Compare the benefits and limitations of aligners versus traditional braces.
  • Treatment Process: Learn how orthodontists plan and design aligner treatments, including the creation of digital treatment simulations.
  • Patient Compliance: Discuss the importance of patient compliance in aligner treatment and how it affects results.
  1. Treatment Planning
This is where the intern will observe the decision-making process that tailors orthodontic care to each patient:
  • Initial Consultation: Attend patient consultations to see how orthodontists assess malocclusions, tooth alignment, and jaw positioning.
  • Diagnostic Tools: Learn how diagnostic tools such as X-rays, photographs, and impressions are used to create a personalized treatment plan.
  • Creating a Roadmap: Observe the doctor mapping out treatment timelines, appliance choices, and follow-up visits based on the patient’s needs.
  1. Sterilization and Disinfection
A critical part of patient care is maintaining hygiene standards. Interns will observe:
  • Sterilization Protocols: Learn about the strict sterilization and disinfection processes that protect patients and staff.
  • Tools and Techniques: Get familiar with the various sterilization techniques for orthodontic tools, from autoclaves to chemical disinfectants.
  • Cross-Contamination Prevention: Understand the protocols in place to avoid cross-contamination in a busy clinic environment.
  1. Orthodontic Lab Shadowing
Interns will have the chance to observe the technical side of orthodontics by visiting our in-house lab:
  • Appliance Fabrication: See how custom orthodontic appliances, such as retainers, expanders, and mouthguards, are crafted.
  • Materials and Equipment: Learn about the different materials used, such as acrylics and wires, and the precision equipment required for creating these appliances.
  • Lab-Clinic Collaboration: Understand the communication between orthodontists and lab technicians to ensure patient appliances are perfectly tailored.
  1. X-rays, Records, and Scans
Modern orthodontics relies on detailed records for diagnosis and treatment planning:
  • Imaging Techniques: Learn about the different types of imaging used, from digital X-rays to advanced 3D scans.
  • Record Keeping: Understand the importance of maintaining accurate patient records, including dental scans, photographs, and medical histories.
  • Using Scans in Treatment: Observe how digital scans are used to create treatment simulations, aligner models, and even custom orthodontic appliances.
  • Delve into how Artificial Intelligence is changing the world of Orthodontics.
  1. Management Skills
Running an orthodontic practice involves more than just patient care. Interns will gain insight into the business side by observing:
  • Scheduling and Communication: Learn how patient appointments are managed, from scheduling initial consultations to follow-ups.
  • Patient Interaction: Observe how front-desk staff communicate with patients and ensure a smooth flow of operations in the clinic.
  • Administrative Tasks: Gain exposure to billing, insurance processing, and inventory management, all of which keep the practice running smoothly.

Internship Requirements:

  • Dress Code: Medical scrubs or a white lab coat.
  • Attendance: Full attendance is required for certification.

At the end of the program, interns will receive a Certificate of Attendance, marking their participation and the completion of their observational learning experience.
